I'm new to carrying, and I've heard a lot about different types of 9mm ammo. What do you all recommend for self-defense? Any brands that have proven reliable for you?

For Alaska I recommend Hornady Critical Duty. We tend to wear layers which can plug a regular hollow point and turn it effectively into a round nose. The Critical Duty doesn't have that problem. Critical Defence is something I use for the short, 3", barrel guns. The lighter weight gives a faster muzzle velocity in a short barrel.

When I first started carrying, I went with Federal HST 124 grain. I always fed smooth in my Glock, it never had a hiccup, and accuracy was great. Anybody else got a go-to 9mm defense round?

I've had the same luck with Speer Gold Dot 124 grain. It runs flawless in my carry gun, accurate, and great expansion. It is hard to go wrong with either Gold Dot or HST for defense
