My carry insurance paperwork arrived and I actually read all of it

I almost just skimmed it and filed it away the way most people probably do but I decided to actually sit down and read every page this time. The legal defense coverage turned out to be more extensive than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise. The civil liability side was less extensive than I'd assumed though, which was the part that actually caught me off guard.

The incident reporting process itself was also laid out way more specifically than any YouTube explainer had ever prepared me for, down to details I didn't even know I needed to know. So if there's one takeaway here, it's this, actually read the paperwork yourself. The summaries and the secondhand explanations everyone passes around online don't cover everything and the gaps are exactly where you don't want to find out the hard way.

That's good advice regardless of the provider. It's easy to rely on summaries or what you've heard online but reading the actual policy is the only way to know what's covered and what you're expected to do if you ever need to use it.

Skimmed mine first, then read it properly and yeah, the civil side caught me off guard too. It’s quieter than the ads make it sound.
