I've been considering a shotgun for home defense and could use some advice. I'm stuck between a 12-gauge and a 20-gauge. I know the 12-gauge packs a punch, but the 20-gauge might be easier to handle in a tight space. What do you guys think? I'm also curious about barrel length and stock setup. What features matter most for home defense? Any models or brands that have worked well for you? Also, how crucial is training? I’ve handled shotguns before, but nothing that serious. What kind of practice should I focus on to be ready if the time comes?

A short-barrel 12-gauge is best if you're fine with recoil. A 20-gauge is lighter and easier to handle. Mossberg and Remington are great choices but most important, train often so you're confident using it

For indoor use, stick with 18.5"-20". They're easier to move around within hallways.

Also, traditional shoulder stocks are the way to go for better stability and accuracy.
