Need tips in buying used guns

I know someone locally who’s looking to sell a few firearms he no longer uses. The prices seem reasonable, but it’s clear these guns have seen some action. What’s the best way to check them out without sounding too judgmental?

When checking out used guns, I just look at it out of curiosity instead of trying to find issues. Cycle the action, check how it locks up, look down the barrel with a light. Most sellers will chill out when you're just checking it out casually.
