I went back to shooting a double action revolver after years of using striker fired pistols. The trigger is longer and heavier and it forces you to stay honest with your fundamentals. It exposed a few bad habits right away and helped clean up my shooting overall.

Something similar happened when I picked up a 686 again after not touching one for years. It felt like I’d completely forgotten how to shoot it, I was yanking the trigger, dipping the muzzle every time. It took me a good three trips to the range before I started getting smooth again. I make a point now of bringing it out sometimes, just to keep myself honest. Those striker-fired guns are pretty forgiving with sloppy habits but a revolver just shows you all your flaws right away.

Revolvers don’t lie, if your fundamentals are sloppy, that trigger pull will absolutely call you out every time.

After carrying Glocks for about a decade, I finally picked up a 686. That first session was really humbling..I was jerking the trigger, dipping the muzzle, just rushing everything. But after maybe three more sessions, my striker control got dramatically better.
