Do modern short-barrel designs continue to rely on excessive gas to maintain their reliability?

Short barrels usually have too much gas from the factory, companies would rather make sure they work than deal with people whining about weak ejection. It's not perfect but it keeps rifles running for most.

Most short setups I’ve handled still feel over gassed from the factory. Reliable, yeah but you pay for it in recoil and wear. Adjustable gas made mine way more enjoyable.
