Is the mid-length gas system becoming the standard for 16" ARs, or do carbine-length setups still have their place?

I still like a mid-length gas system on a 16-inch AR, the recoil feels smoother to me. A carbine system works fine but I can feel the difference when I am doing drills

Mid-length gas systems are probably more popular now but carbine gas still works great. Plenty of older rifles with that setup are still running thousands of rounds with no problems.

Carbine gas may not be trendy anymore, but it’s the Toyota Corolla of setups, it keeps running forever without complaining.
